Kenneth A. Peterson, Jr., a lifelong Steger resident, was elected the 21st Village President in May of 2013. He was first elected Village Trustee in May, 2003. Ken served as the Chairperson of the Village of Steger’s Economic Development Committee prior to becoming Village President and he served as Chairman of Steger’s Board of Fire & Police Commissioners prior to being elected as a Village Trustee.
Ken is a Partner of the law firm Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, LLP in Chicago. His law practice is in municipal and corporate finance, primarily assisting local, county and state governments, businesses and financial institutions with raising capital.
In addition to his professional career, Ken is a coach with the Steger Basketball Program and he is active in the Boy Scouts of America. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 1980 and is a member of the Scouts’ Order of the Arrow. He and his wife Alice continue to work with Steger Cub Scout Pack 173, the Cub Pack to which he belonged when he was a boy, and Boy Scout Troop 173, a troop that Alice, Ken’s father and Ken formed in Steger. Ken and Alice are also members of Steger’s Kiwanis Club.
Ken and Alice are the proud parents of four children, Katie, Alex, Randy and Cameron. Katie and Alex are currently attending Purdue University, Ken’s alma matter. Randy is graduating from Bloom Trail High School as the Valedictorian of the Class of 2013 and will be attending the University of Illinois. Cameron is attending Marian Catholic High School and is a member of Marian’s basketball team.
Ken received his bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in 1988, graduating cum laude. He earned magna cum laude honors when he received his jurisprudence doctorate in 1991 from Indiana University.
