SPD Press Release: KKK Flyer
On Tuesday January 31st, 2017 a postal worker while on route in the area of west 37th Street in Steger, discovered a clear plastic bag containing a white piece of paper inside along the curb. Upon reading the flyer discovered it appears to be a political statement purportedly issued by the United Northern & Southern Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.
The postal worker brought the flyer to attention of the Steger Police Department; we then attempted to verify the legitimacy of the flyer. Officers recovered numerous other similar flyers in the area curbside. No one witnessed who may have tossed the flyers about the neighborhood, or exactly when this occurred. A check of the website listed on the flyer appears to be valid. It has also come to our attention that other surrounding communities have discovered the same type of flyer distributed similarly in their towns as well. No leads exist regarding the person or persons responsible for the actual distribution of the flyers.
These appears to be an isolated incident and are not threatening, no criminal acts have been reported to the Steger Police Department regarding any KKK involvement. Anyone having information related to this incident or any criminal activities is encouraged to contact the Steger Police Department at 708-755-0223 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
