American Warrior 5K Shows Off Steger’s Patriotism
This year the Steger Days of Music included a new event – the American Warrior 5K. Nearly 100 registrants from Farmer City to Palatine lined up on one of the hottest days of the summer for an early morning run.
The event raised $2,225 for the Wounded Warriors Project, and participants took the time to celebrate American veterans throughout the morning. “My favorite part was the beginning when the Navy Jr. ROTC presented the colors and father/daughter team Rich and Megan Hummel sang the National Anthem,” said race organizer Cindy Trotier, “We also had the Columbia School Band play throughout the event. I wanted to get a small town USA theme going because Steger is a really patriotic town.”
The participants appreciated her attention to the experience. Many exclaimed “I hope we have the race next year,” or “This is the best 5K I’ve run in all year!” One runner even declared, “People in Steger are so nice!”
Congratulations to the winners Tom Liskowske and Cindy Torres, and of course a huge thank you to the volunteers and sponsors who make the event possible: Park Forest Running & Pancake Club, Tim Perchinski Country Financial, Priscilla Kidd at Trophies and Awards Plus, and 1 Up Signs & Installations.
